UMF recognized as the best undergraduate college by the Washington Monthly 2021 College Rankings
FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington is honored to be recognized by the Washington Monthly Colleges’ Annual Ranking in 2021 as one of the top undergraduate colleges in the United States and the best college in Maine to make the list. It was also named Best Bang for Buck College in the North East.
In its ranking of the best bachelor’s colleges, Washington Monthly ranked Farmington 4th among public bachelor’s colleges, or 16th out of 248 public and private bachelor’s colleges ranked in the United States.
The total score is a combination of three equally weighted measures, including social mobility, research, and community and national service. According to the ranking methodology, this means that the top-ranked colleges must be excellent in all measures, rather than excel in just one measure.
Washington Monthly also named UMF as the Best Bang for Buck College in the Northeast. Colleges named in this category are recognized for helping students of modest means achieve marketable degrees at affordable prices. The ranking of independent magazines recognized UMF as the # 27 public college or # 60 out of 393 public and private colleges ranked in the Northeast.
“We are very proud to receive this national recognition of Farmington’s values and its commitment to creating a path for our students to succeed in the lives and careers they have chosen,” said Edward Serna, President of the UMF. “A quality college education provides students with not only knowledge and skills, but also the confidence and determination to invest them in their future and that of their community.
It’s the 12e consecutive year, UMF has been recognized by Washington Monthly as a smart, well-run university that helps students achieve a high-quality degree at an affordable price while instilling in them a sense of service.
The Washington Monthly College Rankings is based on a final sample of 1,466 colleges, including public, private not-for-profit, and for-profit colleges. The best college rankings are grouped by Carnegie rankings while the Best Bang for the Buck rankings are organized by region.
